श्रीभगवानुवाच।
Lord Krishna said:

विषय: ज्ञान मे महान व्यक्तियों का सम्मिलन
Subject: Participation of Great Persons in Knowledge

इमं विवस्वते योगं प्रोक्तवानहमव्ययम्।
विवस्वान्मनवे प्राह मनुरिक्श्वाकवेऽब्रवीत्॥४-१॥

I taught this (karma) yoga, the eternal science of action to Sun: he told this to Manu (his son) and Manu taught it to Ikshvaku (his son).

श्री भगवान बोले- मैंने इस अविनाशी योग को सूर्य से कहा था, सूर्य ने अपने पुत्र वैवस्वत मनु से कहा और मनु ने अपने पुत्र राजा इक्ष्वाकु से कहा। ॥4-01॥

Lesson: The involvement/ participation of great persons in a scientific pursuit or knowledge (teaching) demonstrate its importance and prevalence.

विषय: रीति रिवाजों की विलुप्ति

Subject: Disappearance of Traditions/Practices

एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः।
स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परंतप॥४-२॥

Thus taken care of or passed over in regular succession, this (Yoga of action) was known to royal sages. But, O Chastiser of Enemies, with the passage of time this (Yoga of action) has disappeared from this world.

हे परन्तप अर्जुन! इस प्रकार परम्परा से प्राप्त इस योग को राजर्षियों ने जाना, किन्तु उसके बाद वह योग बहुत काल से इस पृथ्वी लोक में लुप्तप्राय हो गया। ॥4-02॥

Lesson: With the passage of time even the best of the traditions or practices disappear.
